ADHD Coaching

My style of coaching young adults (college students) and those adults still struggling with the myriad of executive functioning issues related to ADHD, combines the knowledge and empathy I gained evaluating hundreds of children and young adults and specific coach training for working with people with ADHD. Having conducted ADHD research on the psychology staff at UMASS Medical Center while working with Dr. Russell Barkley, I gained valuable insight into the lives of many children and teens struggling with the negative impacts of ADHD. Some of the stories were heartbreaking for the parents to share and for me to hear. I saw how much this neurodevelopmental disorder, if untreated or inadequately treated, can impair learning, family life, education, work life, social interactions and more. I witnessed wonderful improvements with the help of both medication and parent training and/or medication and psychoeducation for both clients and parents. As a coach, I am witnessing the positive impact of coaching with clients of all ages in a myriad of settings (high school, college, the adult work place, retirement).

Research is just beginning to show the efficacy of coaching for those diagnosed with ADHD (reference Efficacy of ADHD Coaching for Adults with Attention Deficit Disorder and Research Forum on Psychological Treatment of Adults With ADHD). More research is ongoing or will begin very soon. Dr. Laneri is participating in a national research study conducted by the The Edge Foundation, looking at just this issue with college students from around the nation. More information about this study can be found on The Edge Foundation website.

As a licensed psychologist and Certified Professional Coach, I can help clients in the following areas:
  • Establishing priorities
  • Time management
  • Organizational skills
  • Building or improving \-esteem
  • Improving interpersonal skills
  • Self-monitoring and identifying triggers
  • Improving self-acceptance
  • Increasing knowledge and understanding of what ADHD is and what the executive dysfunctions of ADHD are
  • Improving one's ability to function autonomously
  • Improving study skills
  • Identifying what needs to change
  • Improving work performance
  • Feeling confident in your selection of college major or job selection
I enjoy adding to my client's personal insight and one of the best ways to do this is through a wide variety of assessment tools that I am able to offer to clients. What are your strengths, interests and values? Do your values, strengths and areas of challenge lend themselves to a particular college major, career field or organization to work within?

If any of these areas present problems or challenges for you, I invite you to read over my testimonials and contact me so we can discuss your needs and then determine if we have a positive connection. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you to achieve the goals in life you want to achieve.
